The cuisine of Southwest China mainly refers to the culinary traditions of Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Hunan, collectively known as the 'Four Great Cuisines of Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Hunan' (Yun, Gui, Chuan, Xiang). Due to the region's diverse geography, climate, and culture, these cuisines have developed their own distinct styles. Dishes from the Southwest are generally bold in flavor, focusing on complex taste experiences such as spicy, numbing, and tangy. Ingredients like chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns are widely used in these cuisines. The region’s varied climate and complex terrain foster a wealth of natural resources, and the local dishes emphasize the use of ingredients sourced directly from the area, including many unique wild ingredients.
Over time, South Silk Road gradually realized that the Southwest is not just a flavor but a symbol of culture. This led us to embark on a deeper exploration of the region’s culinary treasures. From the Shangri-La of western Yunnan to the streets of Changsha in Hunan, from ethnic villages to urban alleys, we have sought out local culinary artisans, learning traditional cooking techniques and unique seasoning methods. Behind every dish lies a captivating story, and each ingredient chosen reflects our respect for nature and our passion for food.
Today, our brand has become one of the representatives of Southwest Chinese cuisine in Canada.
Recommended by Alberta Tourism, we have been offering authentic Asian cuisine since 2011, specializing in the bold and spicy flavors of Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, and Guizhou cuisines. We have two branches located in Edmonton and Calgary.
